Column shift with headers

Hello guys, new to the forum. Question I have is has anyone had issues or what have they done as I installed a Blueprint 383 with long tube headers and a 700 r4 in my 1979 impala and will only go into reverse and neutral. What has everyone done to correct this problem as I want to stick with the column shift?

Can you tell me what model headers you got? I'm putting a 350 vortec into my 84 LeSabre so it's the same geometry, and I need to pick some long tube headers. Sorry, no info on your transmission woes ,,
